Some Twitter insights into BJIT debate

by Richard Verbeek on 28 March, 2011

Last week, the association of Belgian journalists on IT (BJIT) organised a lively debate titled: Journalism and social media: a marriage de raison? For anyone interested in the discussion, there will probably be a summary published on the BJIT website. As one of the panelists Jo Caudron mentioned in his closing remarks, there were quite a lot of tweets during the debate, both from people present at the debate as well as from people following the debate only on Twitter. I thought it would be nice to put some stats online on Twitter behaviour with the hashtag #BJIT relating to the event.

We captured a total of around 273 tweets using the hashtag #BJIT, of which about 200+ were tweeted during the debate (the debate kicked off around 7 PM and finished around 9.45 PM).

In total there were 62 retweets and 37 @replies. Top 5 tweeters were:

1. @ElCools (24)
2. @ChristianRemon (21)
3. @pietr (17)
4. @Fredegre (14)
5. @YvesVS (14)

Below is a graph of top tweeters as well as a Wordcloud taken from the tweets. Anyone interested in doing some more number crunching, you can download an Excel with all tweets here.
