Crembo (C) Humo
Nathalie Lubbe Bakker works in a Belgian Beer bar in NY. She was at work when suddenly Pieter De Crem (Belgian Minister of Defense ) enters. Pieter De Crem was very known for his fierce oposition. He attacked the former Minister of Defense whenever he had a chance. One time he revealed the Minister of Defense used an army helicopter to go watch Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Thruth”. It looked like he was drunk but there was something else that really bothered her.
She asked a man in his delegation, what they were doing in NY. The man answered, they had some meetings planned for the UN, but that all their meetings were canceled, because “everyone is in Geneva .”She continues and asks if they didn’t know that in advance… ? “Yes we did but all is quiet in Belgium right now, so we might as well make the trip to NY. You know, I have never visited this city before.” Outraged about this citytrip on the expenses of taxpayers, Nathalie Lubber writes about the visit on her blog. It didn’t take very long before a journalist spotted her post, and writes a few lines on the blog of his newspaper.
I can imagine Minister De Crem wasn’t amused about the way things were going. The trip was starting to damage his his reputation, all because of one stupid blogpost. Crembo – like he is sometimes called- knew: “Action needed to be taken.” One of his spokesmen called the employer of Nathalie Lubbe Bakker, and a day later she lost her job.
But again … she writes about this on her blog. Again the news is picked up in Belgium. A facebook group was created and this time, also the opposition reacts. De Crem will be asked to give an explanation in parliament. Why did he go to NY, who did they meet, did they know in advance all the appointments where canceled. And why did someone have to lose her job?
What started as a small spark on the net, soon became a wildfire just because of the way they handeled the situation. From a unimportant small weblog, the news grew mainstream because of one phone call. Now De Crem is answering questions in parliament. Regardless the fact that they probably did have some usefully meetings in NY.Allthough practically every Belgian politician seems to worship Obama they haven’t really learn’t anything from his election, or his 2.0 tactics.
Again it shows that a media-training just isn’t enough to safeguard your reputation, if you’re not confident about your 2.0 plan of defense .. let us know
